Album merupakan album studio ke-7 coldplay yang merupakan band rock papan atas inggris ini. Album ini dirilis oleh Parlophone dan Atlantic Records. Album ini menjadi album kedua band ini yang dirilis di Amerika Utara oleh Atlantic, setelah transfer Coldplay dari Capitol Records America pada tahun 2013.
Album ini berisi 11 lagu (12, jika menghitung lagu tersembunyi berjudul "X Marks the Spot") yang di antaranya merupakan kolaborasi dengan bebeberapa musisi dunia seperti Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo, Khatia Buniatishvili, dan Merry Clayton.
